5 days Rwanda wildlife and gorillas

This 5 days safari takes you to Rwanda’s only savanna park for the quest of the African big 5 and also to volcanoes national park for the mountain gorillas. 2 nights in Akagera national park will give you the chance to spot wildlife such as giraffes, elephants, zebras, impalas, buffalos and on a lucky day you may spot leopards, lions and rhinos. You will then head to volcanoes national park where you will do the mountain gorilla tracking experience.

Day 1: transfer to Akagera national park

On arrival at the airport or from your hotel in Kigali, your guide will pick you and drive you to Akagera national park where you will have a chance to see beautiful landscapes along the way to the park. On arrival, have lunch and later drive to the park for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you expect to see many hippos on the lake, sometimes crocodiles and many bird species. Drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: full day game drive

You will have an early morning breakfast at the lodge and then head to the park for your savanna experience where you expect to see different types of animals in the park. You will start with an early morning game drive in the northern part of Akagera national park since it’s an open savanna and we hope to spot the big cats such as lions. You will spend time in the park visiting different tracks as you search for wildlife like the rhinos, giraffes, buffalos, elephants, zebras, impalas and leopards on a lucky day. Keep in mind that this park has the African big 5 and on a lucky day you can complete your big 5 quest. You will have lunch in the park and then proceed with a game drive returning to the lodge late in the afternoon or early evening.

Day 3: transfer to volcanoes national park

After breakfast at the hotel, your guide will drive you to volcanoes national park via musanze town. On your way, you will be thrilled by the good views of the hills and mountains as you approach the park. You will either have lunch on the way or at the lodge depending on the arrival drive time. Optional activities in the afternoon such as a visit to Dian Fossey Museum.

Day 4: gorilla tracking

Wake up to your served breakfast and after you will be handed your packed lunch from the lodge. Your guide will drive you to the park offices for the registration and briefing after which you will be assigned a group and a ranger guide to take you through the experience. The activity normally takes between 2 to 6 hours of trekking where you will be assigned 1 hour of viewing and photographing these animals after you find them. After the trek, you will drive back to the hotel for relaxation as you prepare for the next day.

Day 5: transfer to Kigali and city tour.

After breakfast you will check out of the lodge and drive back to Kigali where you will do a city tour. On arrival in Kigali you will visit the genocide memorial and later visit one of the local markets in Kigali before you go to the airport or your booked hotel.
